Promethean Waltz with Ponytrap

We’ve been pretty silent on this here blog while we’ve been busy finishing up our new website (so close!) but we just had to make a post about this great event that we’re a part of – which is happening Sunday, January 24th (less than two weeks away!). Take it away, press release: Ponytrap’s enthralling mix of classical and industrial music provides the foundation for Promethean Waltz, a new theatrical production that tells the story of a search for meaningful connection in a world overrun by technology. The... Read The Rest →

33 1/3 Rotations in Space

Every year we create a set of 10 posters for Free Week (a week of free shows that many Austin venues participate in during the first week of January) at Holy Mountain and these might be our favorites yet. Most of the credit goes to the vintage sci-fi pulp paintings, obviously. Trashy space novels forever! And if you live in the Austin area and are interested in checking out any of these great shows, click here for all the details and we’ll be seeing you (in space).

For The Love of Skateistan

Skateistan is an amazing organization that educates, inspires and empowers kids around the world – giving them real life skills and confidence while also teaching them how to skateboard! How cool is that? Our friend Peggy Ghorbani has organized a great benefit tomorrow, Sunday November 16th at Cheer Up Charlie’s, with all of the proceeds going to this great group. We’ll be there doing projections throughout the night, there’ll be a bunch of great bands, and an amazing silent art auction. Join us for a good cause! And if you can’t, she’s... Read The Rest →

Alien Languages and Musical Portals: NMASS 2014

As we mentioned last month — we love the Church of The Friendly Ghost. We’re lucky enough here in Austin, Texas to have a thriving music community (obviously), even for those of us whose music tastes veer a bit to the experimental and weird side of the spectrum. The Church of The Friendly Ghost is a safe haven for just that, encouraging and cultivating artists and musicians in the community that intentionally colour outside of the lines. That’s why, when they asked us to make their collectable silkscreen poster for this... Read The Rest →

NMASS 2014: Help the Friendly Ghosties!

Recspec loves the Church of The Friendly Ghost — an Austin run organization that helps cultivate and encourage experimental music and experiential art through nearly weekly events, normally held at the Salvage Vanguard Theatre. We’ve been involved in their organization basically since we’ve been in Austin, doing video projections for shows, volunteering at events, and we even had the pleasure of creating the branding for the 2012 incarnation of their yearly festival, NMASS (the New Media Art and Sound Summit). NMASS is the yearly culmination of their weekly events in one three day... Read The Rest →

Visual Magic and Exploded Drawings

We were thrilled and super honored to be invited to do guest visuals at the next installment of Exploded Drawing, this Friday! In their own words: Exploded Drawing is an organization based in Austin whose aim is to elevate the electronic music community in Texas by encouraging creativity and stimulating conversation among electronic artists and listeners. At each Exploded Drawing session, six new beat makers, sound collectors, and electronic composers are given a platform to perform their original work for an open minded audience. Originality is encouraged and will be... Read The Rest →

All That Sparkles: 12th Night Austin 2014

12th Night is upon us once again, and we hope you’ll join us tomorrow night to dance through the streets of East Austin and shake off those winter blues. As we wrote about the tradition leading up to our first (amazing, beautiful) year of 12th night: “This is your chance to shake off the winter doldrums, gather together your krewe, and celebrate with your community. Austin is ripe for a new tradition and you can help us bring some New Orleans cheer and old world magic to this city.” Last... Read The Rest →

Funding Future Farms

We wanted to write a quick post about our good friend Francesca, and her wonderful Kickstarter that is in its last few days and needs your help. Francesca is an incredible massage therapist (bonus – we made her logo and website!) who also has a degree in Landscape Architecture, and is working hard to create a space for her to realize her dream of creating sustainable land management systems, incredible organic food, and a wellspring of knowledge to share with the community and beyond. She already has the land but needs... Read The Rest →

The Ladies of La Botánica

We were so pleased when Carla and Olivia of La Botánica asked if we could help them develop a new identity and website to go with the new incarnation of their herbalism business: they recently shifted from having a small retail space to the concept of a Community Supported Herbalism service, where individuals can subscribe to receive a seasonally appropriate box each month full of tinctures, incenses, teas, and more. The idea really resonated with us – we’re lucky to have some amazing CSA‘s in Austin, and the idea of them... Read The Rest →
