The RECSPEC website is in the process of a large overhaul, and as such, this blog is painfully neglected. We’ll be back soon with all sorts of goodies and upcoming events, though, so stay tuned. In the meantime, we’re DJing this Friday at Rio Rita and playing some great music from some of our favourite producers. Starts around 10.
The posters we’ve been making for this monthly event have been designed to be displayed horizontally, and here’s how they all look next to each other so far. I can definitely see an improvement from the first one, which has resulted in an interesting progression. Click through to see it larger.

And on another note, you can now get to this website at recspec.org as well as recreationalspeculum.com, easier to remember and faster to type!

We just wanted to say thank you so much to everyone that came out and partied with us last night, it went so wonderfully, better than we ever could have hoped for.
We especially want to thank Shangri-La and all of their staff for having us, Vulcan Video, End of an Ear and The Onion for the prizes and all the help, the Roadhouse band for playing so amazingly, Alison Narro for taking pictures, and everyone who dressed up for looking so amazing.
Keep an eye on this space and we should have the pictures up for you guys soon. Thanks so much to everyone again.
xx,
RECSPEC
Date: Tuesday February 24th
Where: Shangri-La (map)
We’re throwing a party on the 20-year anniversary of Laura Palmer’s death at the newly opened Shangri-La, and we are super excited. Its going to feature the Roadhouse Band covering Angelo Badalamenti songs, the RECSPEC DJ’s, damn good coffee and more. We also are going to have our friend Alison come out and take photobooth pictures, like at all of our parties.
If you are on Myspace or Facebook, you can RSVP by clicking the corresponding links, although its in no way necessary for you to.
Hope to see you there!
Recently we finished the artwork and design for Ume‘s new EP, Sunshower – working directly with the band from the very start to develop the conceptualization of the artwork through to the end product.

We also designs the t-shirt for the release, inspired by old samurai movies and printed by I Heart U Productions. You can view a detail shot of the final product here:

The EP release was this past Saturday at Mohawk where we also did video projections for their show, and was absolutely packed. Thanks to everyone that came out. Be sure to check out Ume’s music on their myspace.
All of the Christmas Sweater Champagne Jam pictures are now online!
You can view them on our flickr. Also, you can view last year’s too.
Thanks to Alison for taking the pictures and to everyone that came out, its looks like you had a great time & I know we did. Watch this space for information about our next party, it’s going to be pretty amazing.
Snowballs and kisses,
RECSPEC

Happy holidays from the RECSPEC team. Sorry for the radio silence in this blog, that should be changing soon enough. For those of you in the Austin, Texas area, please come to our Christmas Sweater Champagne Jam at the Beauty Bar on December 18th. If last year was any guide, its going to be ridiculous fun.
More soon.
Welcome to the RECSPEC metaverse, slags.
Turn back, ye, who enter here.
