Recspec goes Queerbombing!

Next Friday, June 3rd, is a pride event of epic proportions, and Recspec is happy and proud to be a part of it. Queerbomb! What is Queerbomb, you ask?

Queerbomb is a family of LGBTQIA individuals gathering to support our unique and collective pride. Our purpose is to provide a space to celebrate each and every member of our community and encourage all to embrace the manifold ways we contribute to building a beautiful and diverse society. We reclaim the radical, carnal and transgressive lineage of our ever-changing community in our ongoing fight for equal justice and the right to express ourselves in whatever way we see fit. (More here…)

Queerbomb exists as an organization of freaks, fancies, and all-around-fabulous people in Austin that have taken Pride back — with a rally, procession, and weekend of events — all non-commercial, judgement free and free to all. Embracing diversity and encouraging individuality, its a truly inspiring organization that has taken Austin and the queer scene by storm, and is certainly not going to leave anytime soon.

Recspec has had the pleasure of being asked to provide the visual projections for the after parties, so be sure to stop by and party with us after the procession leaves its glittery gorgeous mark all over Downtown Austin!

THE RALLY: 7:00 PM at the East Side Drive In, 1000 East Sixth Street.

THE PROCESSION: Will leave the East Side Drive In at 9:00, marching with our Queer Pride down Sixth Street, the straightest strip in town, before turning on Congress and returning to the Drive In via Seventh.

THE PARTIES: After the procession, follow the parade to an undisclosed location to keep the party going, where we’ll be doing projections for the rest of the night.

QueerBomb does not apologize. QueerBomb does not make excuses. QueerBomb is free for all. QueerBomb stands proud, and so should you.

Insect Records takes Fusebox

This past Thursday, with our buddies Insect Records we took over the Fusebox Festival at ND for a night, doing projections for a wide array of awesome musicians and acts. Mr. Butcher Bear took a couple photos of our projections on the night, and since we rarely get pictures of them, we thought we would share them here. Thanks for having us, Insect Records, Fusebox and ND!

Magnifico + Sweater Party pictures are up!

Our 4th Annual Christmas Sweater Champagne Jam was a complete hit, and we’re so grateful to everyone that came out and partied with us. Thank you! Magnifico was incredible, as always, and the photos by Devaki Knowles are now up and perfectly Christmas-y and awkward, just like we requested. We were really blown away by how many people brought their own super ugly and amazing sweaters. Thanks again to everyone that came out!

4th Annual Christmas Sweater Champagne Jam

Its that time again for us all to don our ridiculous apparel for our yearly Christmas Sweater Champagne Jam at Beauty Bar. This year, we’re especially lucky to be featuring Austin’s most magnificent Queen cover band (perhaps the best Queen cover band in the world?) MAGNIFICO! Party people in holiday attire get a drink on Santa’s bar tab and Devaki Knowles will be taking amazing photos and polaroids at our very awkward photobooth. And as always, DJ Kon Karne and Lee Roi will be rocking the smooth Christmas-tastic jams all night.

Don’t miss out! This is the original Austin sweater party, and its happening this Thursday!

Tech_Sys Photobooth

We had the pleasure of being asked to do a photobooth at Tech_Sys this past weekend, which was also our friends Butcher Bear and Charlie‘s EP release party, thus the red bear vs. robot motif. Here are a handful of pictures from the night, click through to go to the set on flickr. It was nice meeting everyone, and thanks for having us, Massive Beacon!

Sleep all day, party all night, its fun to be a vampire

Here’s a handful of great photos from our latest party: GET LOST – The photobooth was made by us, and all photos taken by the ever-talented Alison Narro. Thanks again to everyone who came out! The full set of photos can be seen on our Flickr account over here.

Many, many more can be viewed here!

Sex Harvestin’

This month for our regular DJ night, Kon Karne’s Butcher Shop with The Bear, we decided to have some fun and carve some pumpkins, since we decided to give the night a very silly name: Sex Harvest. Evidence below:

GET LOST: Lost Boys Party with Woodgrain, Freshmillions, and Fingaar Bangaar

Hi all.

So we’ve been planning this one for a while and are really excited for it: we are teaming up with our friends at Represent Austin and 101X Homegrown Live to put together a halloween party fit for the thirstiest of vampires. Its Lost Boys themed, which we think will make for crazy fun and a great photobooth, which we will be creating and Alison Narro will be photographing, just like at our past parties.

The bands make up one of the most awesome line-ups ever, and feature: Woodgrain, Freshmillions, and Fingaar Bangaar. Our very own DJ Kon Karne will finish out the night. Vulcan Video is sponsoring the screening of the movie before hand at 8pm, with free pizza from Gatti’s Pizza. Also, the first 100 people (maybe more) will receive a free pair of sunglasses and vampire teeth to really get the 80′s Lost Boys effect.

The party is going on Friday October 29th, at ND at 501 Studios. Click through for a map and location info!

Some come early and RSVP at Do512 to receive 2$ off the cover price. Hell yea! We’re going to do a give away for free entry on here so keep an eye out in the coming weeks for giveaways.

3rd Annual Christmas Sweater Champagne Jam

The pictures from our yearly bad sweater party are now online! Thanks a lot to Alison Narro for taking photos, as always. Here’s some of our favorites, and the rest can be seen here or by clicking on any of the pictures below.

From The Ladle to The Grave winners!

Congratulations to Leana and Lee who took 1st and 2nd place at our little soup competition this past weekend. And thank you so much to everyone that came out, and to everyone that made soup. So many delicious soups were there, I wish we could have given everyone a trophy.

There was a tie for 2nd, and as we all know, the only way to solve any tie breaker is with JARTS! They’re illegal!

Zorch and friends also played a couple improv soup sets through the night. Thanks, guys, it sounded great. A handful of more pictures can be seen over at our flickr.
